June 13, 1903 was a memorable day in the history of the Church of God of
Prophecy. This was the day that the small group of worshipers initially known as the
“Christian Union” and later adopting the name “Holiness Church at Camp Creek”
Word. An emerging leader by the name of A.J. Tomlinson had joined the group for
study, and early in the morning of June 13, 1903, he ascended what was then called
“Burger Mountain” to seek God, and that he did. History records his experience
while atop Burger Mountain in earnest prayer as one of revelation of the Word of
God by the Holy Spirit. From that day forward the name Church of God identified
this group, although the name was not officially adopted until the second General
Assembly, January 9-13, 1907.
You membership helps preserve our heritage! The Heritage Ministries Department
works to preserve our Church heritage and maintain and improve the Fields of the
Wood, the First Assembly House, the Shearer Schoolhouse site, and the Holy Ghost
marker.
The ministry also seeks to play a role in encouraging our Churches to pursue vision
for tomorrow. Our core values of prayer, evangelism and leadership development
are a part of our heritage and key components in our vision for the future.
